HIST | WILL OF WILLIAM SANDERS The State of South Carolina I William Sanders of Sumter District in the State aforesaid, planter do make and ordain this my last Will and testament----------------------------------------------------- Item -- I give to my son Garner Sanders all that tract of land containing Six hundred acres,purchased by me of Robert Rogers, Excepting one hundred acres thereof to be laid out of that part of the said land lying most Contiguous to the land upon which I reside---------------------------------------------------------------------- Item I give to my two sons John Sanders and Marion Sanders five hundred acres of land purchased by my of general Thomas Sumter also all the lands I inherited or may inherit from the Estate of my father to be Equally divided between them------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Item I have to my son William Sanders the plantation upon which I now reside consisting of a hundred and fifty acres: also fourteen acres of land adjoining there to which I purchased of John Langstaff and also the one hundred acres of land reserved out of the tract of land before allotted to my Son Garner Sanders--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Item -- I give to my daughter Elizabeth the Wife of Doctor William Ballard a tract of land called Catch -- all purchased by me of John Bradford Senior.--------- Item -- In lieu or Stead of lands I give to my Daughter Ephatha Sanders any two negroes she may select or choose out of the whole number I own-------------------- Item - I give to my grand Son John Osburn Erasmeus Sanders Son of Garner Sanders one negro child called Sarah------------------------------------------------------------- Item - I give to my son Garner Sanders the following negroes now in his pofsefsion (that is to say) Jack, Jose, Wilson, Lydia and her two children and Nan-- The value of these negroes. I wish deducted out of his portion on a general division of my property intended herein after to be directed-------------- Item -- I wish my said Daughter Elizabeth to leave the use of the following negroes (that is to say) Monk, Kins, Patty, Aggy and Fillis; the value of these negroes I wish to be deducted out of her portion on a general division of my property intended herein after to be directed------------------------------------------------- Item -- I wish my said Son John to have when he arrives at the age of twenty one years the following negroes (that is to say) Ben, Woodley, Mary, Suckey and Adam, and to Settle if he thinks proper on some part of the land herein before alotted to him -- The value of the negroes given him I also wish deducted out of his portion on a general division of my property intended herein after to be directed----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Item -- The whole of my Estate and Sffaety not herein before given and devised, I wish Equally divided at the expiration of Eight years from this time between my said children Garner, Elizabeth, John, Marion, Ephatha and William Share and Share alike, deducting as I have herein before directed the value of the negroes Specifically given to Carner, Elizabeth and John from their portions respectively ------------------------------------- I wish also the negroes that I may intitled by the last Will of my Father, at the death of my Mother, be Equally divided between my said children, Garner, Elizabeth, John , Marion, Ephtha and William------------------------------------------------ Item -- My new House I wish completely finished and the proceeds of the annual Crops until the general division of property herein before directed takes place, over and above what my be necefsary for the Support and Education of my four youngest childred (that is to say) John, Marion, Ephatha and William, I wish my Executors herein after appointed to vest and lay out in negroes to be also divided between my Said Six children-------------------------------- Item -- I wish my three Sons John, Marion and William to receive regular Collegiate Educations My daughter Ephatha, I wish continued at Salem whereshe is now at School, until She arrives to the age of fourteen years, then to be sent for the term of two winters to the best female Academy in Charleston --Until the general division before directed takes place, my Executors are directed to cloth my Said four youngest children in a way Suited to their fortune--They are also directed to put to interest when the general division aforementioned is made two hundred Dollars or Such sum as may be necessary over and above a bond I hold given by James B. Richardson, Matthew James, and Thomas Maples to pay and Satisfy certain legacies left by William Ragan, deseased ------------------------------------------------------------------ I wish also all the Brood-Mares and surp horses upon my plantation, Sold within twelve months from this time-------------------------------------------------------------- Item I do ordain, Constitute and appoint Barwall Fort, Reuben Arthur and James Kendrick my lawful Executors, I also appoint my Sons Executors as they Shall respectively respectively arrive at the age of twenty one years of and to this my last Will and testament----------------------------------------------------------------------- In Witness whereof I have here unto Set my hand and Seal this twenty fifth day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and Sixteen.
