- Was a Reverend Patriot. St. Marks Parrish, Camden Dist. His will is Apt. 119, Pack 17,in the Sumter Courthouse. Also as Vol. 1, Book A, pp. 14,15. He came to this country with Richard Harvin, ca 1740.Both Ragin and Harvin came to South Carolina around 1740 from Ireland.
In his will, William Ragin of St. Marks Parish in Craven County, SC writes: "to wife Lucy Ragan, the use of my dwelling house & my moveable estate, my daughter Lucy Ragan and her daughter Mary Ragan to have their maintenance till the death of my wife or until my daughter Lucy shall get married if that should happen; son William Ragin to have his maintenance; to my daughter Elizabeth, wife of Edward Broughton one Guinea; to my daughter Jemimey, the wife of William Griffin, the sum of one guinea..". He also willed cash to be put to interest for the support of his son William Ragan and at the death of son William the money was to go to grandchildren: ...."and one hundred pounds to be equally divided between the children of my daughter Jemimy wife of William Griffin, One Guinea; to my daughter Sarah wife of William Saunders, 1/3 of my moveable estate; to my daughter Francis wife of Richard Harvin, the sum of One Guinea; to my son John Ragin, one guinea; to my daughter Tabitha, wife of Richard Rodgers, 1/3 part of my moveable estate; to son William negro Sharper, and interest of 220 sterling; 100 (pounds) to be equally divided between the children of my daughter jemimy Griffin as they arrive at 21 and the remainder divided amoung the children of my daughter francis Harvin...to my two grandsons William Saunders the son of my daughter Sarah Saunders and John Broughton son of my daughter Elizabeth Broughton, all my real estate; 40 (pounds) to my grandaughter Mary daughter of Lucy; John James, Samuel Little, and William Saunders, exrs...15 Jan 1785. william Ragan (W) (LS), Wit: Josiah Furman, Thomas Casity, Sarah Furman (Camden District Wills, Vol. 1, Book A, pp. 14 & 15; Sumter Box 119, 17 per the late Wilhelm Von Hacke of Sumter, hence as VH; xerox of orig.
