  HIST	of Sumter, South Carolina of New Zion, South Carolina BETTY WINDHAM WELCH Posted Tuesday, June 29, 2021 6:00 am Betty Windham Welch, 85, widow of James Howard "Bubba" Welch, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the home of her daughter. Born on May 14, 1936, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Arthur James Windham and Ella Mae Nesbitt Windham. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church. She retired from Campbell Soup Co. after 24 years of service. Following retirement, she became a certified nursing assistant and served as a private sitter for 16 years. Survivors include five children, James M. Welch of Sumter, Debbie Welch Byrd (Terry) of Creedmoor, North Carolina, Janet Welch Newman (Whit) of Sumter, Danny Ray Welch of Sumter and Violet Welch Peele (Kenny) of North; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by siblings, Frank Windham, Katherine Atkinson, Harvey Windham, Lillie Mae Welch and Buddy Windham. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Terry Byrd and Pastor Charles Owens officiating. Burial will be at Sumter Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Janet and Whit Newman, 2715 Bertha Circle. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.  [1, 3, 5, 10, 11]
