MILDRED B. CARRIGAN
Mildred Brewer Carrigan, beloved wife of the late Gerald Carrigan, died on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at Lexington Medical Center.
Born in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Adolph and Alice Emma Holliday Brewer. Mildred was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the founder of the educational kindergarten program at Grace Baptist Church along with the Shaw Air Force Base founder and director of their early childhood development program. She served many years as a teacher for Sumter School District 17 and School District 2, along with teaching for a period of time at Sumter Christian Academy. Mildred was an active member and volunteered many hours to First Presbyterian Church of Sumter.
Surviving are a daughter, Rosalind Carrigan Hearon and her husband, Dr. Edward H. Hearon III, of Columbia; a sister, Colleen Madelyn Brewer Clayton of Manning; six grandchildren, Thomas G. "Tee" Carrigan Jr., Dolleen Carrigan Prescott, Dr. Edwin Hearon IV, Lawrence G. Carrigan, Anthony S. Carrigan and Elizabeth R. Hearon; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Gerald Carrigan, and a son, Thomas G. Carrigan Sr.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Sumter with the Rev. Jose Holler officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Methodist Church cemetery in Manning.
Pallbearers will be family members.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the residence, 1264 Manning Road, Sumter.
