Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Waters-Powell Funeral Home with interment following in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mr. Elliott was born in Pinewood, a son of the late John M. and Hermione Jenkinson Elliott. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Elliott was the owner and operator of Elliott Gin and Lumber Co. and a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Katie L. Elliott of the home; two sons, Swaine Elliott and John M. Elliott III, both of Florence; a daughter, Debbie Elliott of Florence; five grandchildren, Sarah (Lee) Kershner of Irmo, Tyler (Michael) Harnish of Socastee, April Owens of Lamar, Sunshine Hutchinson of Florence and William Bacote of Florence; seven great-grandchildren, Brooke Jones, Christopher Hutchinson, Justin Hutchinson, Tyler Owens, Shane Owens, Hayden Harnish and Hampton Harnish; a brother, Cleveland C. "Major" Elliott of Garden City; and a sister, Ann Bradshaw of Sumter. Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by his first wife, Nell Howell Elliott.
