| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina RAYMOND D. NEWMAN Posted Tuesday, May 1, 2018 6:00 am Raymond Delano Newman, 85, husband of Faye Floyd Newman, died on Saturday, April 28, 2108, at his home. Born on July 2, 1932, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Joseph Rowland Newman and Alice Josey Newman. Mr. Newman graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in accounting. He was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church. He was a certified public accountant and retired from Sumter Machinery Co. after 51 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathryn Banks (Martin) of Cayce and Wanda Wile (Steve) of Mineral Bluff, Georgia; a stepson, Kenny Matthews (Sheri) of Alcolu; three stepdaughters, Donna Mitchum (Robert) of Alcolu, Brenda England (Roger) of Georgetown and Belinda Rodgers (Lonnie) of Lake City; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, J.R. Newman Jr. of Granbury, Texas; and a sister, Esther McClary of Salters. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Althea Flowers Newman; and a son, Kevin Ryan Newman. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Charles Owens officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Ben Thomas, Shady Rodgers, Will Rodgers, Graison Matthews, Brad Pelfrey and Austin Wile. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Kelly, Wilson Ray, Roy Weathersbee, Jenks Stokes, Ray Graber, T.M. Ward, Walter McGee and Murr Brown. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
