Thomas Brown Jr., age and address unknown, died at 12:29 p.m. Saturday at Palmetto Health Richland, he said. Brown had been transported from Tuomey Regional Medical Center after he was taken there either Thursday or Friday following some sort of altercation, he said. The cause of death is pending, and an autopsy will be performed today at Newberry Pathology Associates, he added. Date Published: January 5, 2010 THOMAS H. BROWN Jr. Thomas "Tom" Herbert Brown Jr., 76, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Palmetto Health Richland. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Thomas Herbert and Thelma Dollard Brown. Mr. Brown retired from Exide Battery with 36 years of service. Surviving are a son, Bryan Brown of La Porte, Texas; two daughters, Wendy Brown Edwards and Samantha Brown Tilley, both of La Porte; a sister, Vicki Rowan of Charlotte, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. today in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Veda Smalls officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
