William Bracey came out of Virginia a few years before the Revolutionary War. He was in St. Mark's Parish around 1780's. He is a signer of the petition to sell the original St. Mark's Episcopal Church land in 1789. The land was originally donated by Richard Richardson, who was deseased at the time of this petition. William Bracey was once a Warden of said Church. His fellow signers are all names we recognize: J. G. Guignard, J. G. Hunt, Henry Maxwell, P. Waring, Lau Manning, Thos Sumter, Wm Murrell, Geor. Ioor, John Macnair, Isham Moore, Leond Powell. Isham Moore had two daughters which married William's sons Jollie and Merry.
William Bracey and his wife, Sarah Singleton, Richard Singleton and his second wife, Susanna Richardson, Nazareth PettyPoole and his second wife Nancy Terry Brooks, are found in Wilkinson County, Georgia.
He died in the State of Mississippi in 1825, leaving a large estate real and personal lying and being partly in Sumter District, South Carolina, and partly in the State of Mississippi. I have found an Old Equity Court partition proceedings Bill which sets forth as follows:
".....that William Bracey died in the State of Mississippi in 1825, leaving a large estate real and personal lying and being partly in Sumter District, South Carolina, and partly in the State of Mississippi. That the said William Bracey left a Will, dated 15 January, 1825, by which after various devises and bequests to his children and grandchildren, he devised and bequeathed as follows: "All my lands that have not been otherwise disposed of, it is my will and desire to have them equally divided between my sons: Merry Bracey, Xenophon J. Bracey, and Charles Lynch."
"The Bill then describes 9 tracts of land in Sumter County and a lot in old Statesburg. He owned a fine home in old Statesburg before he moved to Mississippi. The Bill then describes his property in Mississippi, now in possession of and cultivated by Charles Lynch; also another extensive and valuable plantation on Pearl River now occupied by Merry Bracey...describes lands in Wilkinson County, Mississippi.

"William Bracey may have come (to SC) with Abraham PettyPoole and Jesse Nettles. These families jumped around quite a bit, for example, the Cantey's, Jennings, Tynes, Gayles, Pooles, are all in Bermuda and the Barbados very early as were the Marions. They came into Charleston early. Other family members are back in Virginia, in Barbados, or over staking out land in North Carolina around Fort Dobbs.
Marye (Merry) and the Jennings, Tynes, were families out of Bermuda with tie into our Sumter Families. Jolly may have once been Jollie. Merry is turning out to be Marye.
William Bracey and Sarah E. Singleton Bracey moved to Wilkinson Co., Mississippi with Richard Singleton, and his second wife, Susanna Richardson, and Nazareth PettyPoole and his second wife Nancy Terry Brooks."
"Long ago...with no documentation, I read of a Jane Singleton who married first a Royall and then Cannelum Folkes. Cannelum Folkes family went back into the Jennings family and Christian family. It was here that I read of the William Bracey marriage to a Sarah Eugenia Singleton. This William Bracey and Sarah E. Singleton moved to Wilkinson Co., MS."

A William Bracey gave aid to the American Revolution in Brunswick County, Virginia (Brunswick County Order Book 13, April 23, 1782), but it is not know if this was the son of Randolph and Mary or of Thomas and Mary.
William was in South Carolina by 1778, when the earliest land deed for him was recorded by the Register of Mesne Conveyances in Charleston. The earliest land grant for William Bracey in South Carolina was for 295 acres and for 64 acres in Georgetown, granted 5 October 1789. Multiple grants followed during the 1800's.
There are many land deeds in Sumter County for William Bracey, some of which give the name of his wife as Margaret. His children were probably adults when they came to South Carolina, but they are all believed to have married after moving. William lived mainly in the village of Statesburgh.
Sumter County Equity Roll #553, dated 30 December 1830, states that he died in Mississippi in 1825 and left a will, dated 15 February 1825, which mentioned his sons Merry and Xenophen Bracey and his son-in-law, Charles Lynch.

One of my correspondents also gave children of William & Eugenia named Elcie and Lively (it would only be right for brothers Merry and Jolly to have a sister named Lively.
The obituary of William Bracey: "Died in the 77th year of his age on the 19th inst. at Monticello, Miss. Native of South Carolina. Jackson "Southern Luminary," Sept. 27, 1825".
As for Randolph (or Randall) Bracey, the father of William, I refer you to a message from me to Pat Greenwood in the Bracey mailing list archives, dated 14 Jan. 1999, Subject: Randall Bracey. Go to the Onelist web site, sign in, and maneuver to theBracey list archives and find the digest for that date. I would just point out that Sackfield Maclin Bracey, whose name you will also undoubtedly come across in the SC records was a brother of William Bracey. This family moved to SC from VA and is related to my own NC family as well as those who moved to TN.
