Born in Orangeburg County, he was a son of the late Daniel B. Gleaton and Gladys Millhouse Gleaton. Mr. Gleaton was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church where he was a member of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class. Mr. Gleaton was the former owner and operator of Gleaton Floor Covering. He was an Army veteran serving in the 2nd Battery of the 178th Field Artillery of the National Guard, serving during WWII in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 15. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, of Sumter; two sons, William N. (Bill) Gleaton and wife, Becky, of Tampa, Fla., and Lever R. (Randy) Gleaton Jr. of Sumter; one brother, Olin Gleaton of Columbia; one sister, Shelby Counts of Crystal River, Fla.; five grandchildren, Kathryn Louise Gleaton, Jessica Leigh Gleaton, Rebecca Lauren Gleaton, Rachel Louise Gleaton and Jason Gleaton; two great-grandchildren, Mary Alexander Gleaton and Logan Matthew Gleaton. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Dr. Clay Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Alice Drive Baptist Church, 1305 Loring Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29150. Nephews will be pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 2nd Battery of the 178th Field Artillery, members of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class and Dr. Lea B. Givens.
