ATKINSON BISHOPVILLE -- Ida Rebecca Harrington Atkinson, 84, widow of Edward Atkinson Sr., died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Harrington and the late Susan Harrington. She was a member of Elliott Baptist Church and was retired from Lower Lee School. Survivors include three sons, Edward Atkinson Jr. (Ada) and Billy R. Atkinson (Wanda), both of Sumter, and Lynwood Atkinson (Patricia) of Bishopville; and four daughters, Eloise Thigpen (Bobby) of Hollywood, Betty Gomah of Charleston, Linda Walker (Joe) of Summerville and Josie Hancock of Sumter. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Atkinson. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Griggs and J.O. Reed officiating. Burial will be in the Wells Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 570 Clifton Road. Memorials may be made to Elliott Baptist Church, P.O. Box 117, Elliott, SC 29046, or to the Wells Cemetery Fund, 60 Bradley Road., Bishopville, SC 29010.
