| HIST | JAMES E. THORNE Posted Sunday, February 23, 2025 2:41 pm James E. “Jimmy” Thorne, 77, husband of Teresa Wongrey Thorne, passed away Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at his home. Born March 19, 1947, in Mayo, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Robert Britton “R.B.” Thorne and Iris Hollifield Thorne. He was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was employed by Prudential Insurance for 20 years and retired from Allstate Insurance Company. He was the owner of Jim Thorne Agency. Survivors include his wife of 55 years; a daughter, Brittonni T. Perry (Tom) of Inman; a granddaughter, Caitlyn Perry; a brother, John T. Thorne (Betsy) of Columbia; three sisters, Ann T. Hamby of Shelby, N.C., Gayle T. Johnston of Sumter and Debbie T. Moore (Tom) of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Charles Owens and the Rev. Nathan Timmons officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Koehler, Jim Thompson, Derrick Mims, Bobby Beatson, Ernest Sessions and Jim Mellon. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Crosswell Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Crosswell Baptist Church, P.O.
