Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late James Stevenson Mann Sr. and Willie Mae James Mann Leviner. Mr. Mann was a member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Sumter. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an avid golfer. Survivors in addition to his wife of 60 years include four children, Deborah M. Sweat (Jim) of Camden, James S. "Steve" Mann III of Leesville, Teresa "Terrie" Mann of Greer and Brian Mann (Wanda) of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Travis Lacey Jr. (Kristin), Leigh Corine Lacey, Brittany C. Money (Thad), Elyse Butler and Jamison Tyler Mann; seven great-grandchildren, Morgan Money, Hampton Lacey, Emmie Lacey, Madison K. Money, Elijah Butler, Edison Butler and Field Lacey; one sister, Janet Mann of Atlanta; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, William "Billy" Mann; and a sister, Shirley Mann. A private committal service with full military honors will be held at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
