EDWARD E. McELVEEN Jr.
CADES -- Edward "Ebbie" E. McElveen Jr., 74, died Monday, June 1, 2009, in a Florence hospital, after an illness.
He was born in Hebron, a son of the late Edward and Rachel MacCauley McElveen. Mr. McElveen graduated from Hebron High School and Newberry College. He was a teacher, coach and principal at Hebron High School in his early years, but spent most of his adult life as a farmer and Federal Crop Insurance agent. He was a lifelong member of Hebron United Methodist Church. He was very active in the fox hunting associations, having served as president and "Master of Hounds" for many of the major fox hunting field trials. Until recently, "Ebbie" was still judging and participating in these field trials. In the last 8-10 years, he also spent much of his time training foxhounds for hunters across the state.
A loving and devoted family man, "Ebbie" is survived by his daughter, Lynn McElveen; his sister, Norma Parker (Rabon); his daughter-in-law, Celeste McElveen; and his two grandchildren, Edward and Emily McElveen, all of Hebron.
"Ebbie" was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian R. McElveen; and a son, Edward Ervin "Mack" McElveen III.
The family will have visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Funeral services for "Ebbie" will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Hebron United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hebron United Methodist Church, 2332 Hebron Road, Cades, or to the South Carolina State Fox Hunters Association.
