MATHIS Posted Thursday, November 2, 2017 6:00 am Betty Welch Mathis, 77, widow of Clarence Eugene Mathis, died on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, at Palmetto Health Tuomey. Born in Timmonsville, she was a daughter of the late Charlton and Thelma McKay Welch. Mrs. Mathis attended Christian Tabernacle. She was formerly employed by Charm House in Sumter. She loved the Lord, taking care of children and fishing. Surviving are a daughter, Pamela Gregory (Greg); four brothers, Tommy Welch (Betty), Dallas Welch, David Welch (Nancy) and Ronnie Welch (Michele); a sister-in-law, Jewel Burton (Lee); two grandchildren, Gregory J. Gregory Jr. and Lacey Nicole Gregory; two great-grandchildren, Taygen Jacobs and Xander Gregory; and a brother-in-law, Edwin "Bo" Mathis (Ruth). She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bubba Welch and Bobby Welch; and three sisters, Donna Lee Welch, Jackie Harold and Lorraine Taylor. Funeral services will be held at noon on Sunday at Autumn Woods Christian Church, 2490 Sargent Road, Dalzell. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at her brother's home, 6521 Frye Road, Rembert.
