Born Dec. 6, 1949, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Samuel Dewey and Bertha Ethel Ridgeway White. He was a welder and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Turbeville First Baptist Church and attended Bible Outreach in Lake City. Surviving are a son, Shelby Don White Jr. of Cassatt; two daughters, Tina White Powell of Coward and Jennifer Howell and her husband, Jason, of Lake City; five grandchildren, Alexis and Zechariah Howell, John Powell, Amber Carraway and Jessica Grady; two brothers, Julius C. White and his wife, Martha, of Greeleyville and Harry E. White and his wife, Joan, of Prattville, Ala.; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends of Powell's Grocery. He was predeceased by three sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bible Outreach in Lake City with the Rev. Gene McAllister and the Rev. Andy Kinder officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home in Manning. Memorials may be made to the Free Will Baptist Home for Children, P.O. Box 229, Turbeville, SC 29162.
