Hamblin, died on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at her home. Born on Oct. 6, 1930, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Hazel and Estelle Griffin Avin. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Hamblin retired from S.H. Kress and Co. after more than 50 years of service. She loved spending time in her yard raking and tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting and baking goodies for family and friends. Survivors include three children, Barbara Harris, Danny C. Welch Sr. and Virginia Welch, all of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Bell of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Danny C. Welch Jr.; a granddaughter, Heidi D. Harris; and two brothers. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Fraser officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, William Sandifer, Ian Sandifer, Chase Farran, Robert Harris, Allen Harris and Christopher Foster. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church and other times at the home of her son, 3105 Avin Road. Memorials may be sent to Amedisys Hospice, 198 Wesmark Blvd., Suite 2, Sumter, SC 29150. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.  [2]
