Born July 21, 1965, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Charles Lawton Croft Jr. and Ava Fields Irick. Gene enjoyed the outdoors, cooking and watching the South Carolina Gamecocks. Survivors include four children, Lindsey Chapman, Austin Osborne (Samantha), Ethan Osborne (Dakota) and Erin Croft; four grandchildren, Madison Chapman, Addison Osborne, Sullivan Osborne and Miley Osborne; four siblings, Terri Simmons, Cindy Croft, Buddy Croft and Robby Croft; numerous nieces and nephews; and friend, Teresa Tisdale. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at New Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Wiser officiating.
