Born Oct. 18, 1947, he was a son of Lula Mae Singleton. Sammie was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. During his early years, he worked in Columbia and Washington, D.C., and retired from the city of Sumter. He accepted Christ into his life at an early age, was baptized and became a member of the Rafting Creek Baptist Church. He recently reaffirmed his faith shortly before his passing. Sammie enjoyed life and loved his family. A people person, he left an impression on everyone he met, and was always willing to go out of his way to help others. Survivors include two brothers, John (Steral) and Silas (Patricia) Singleton, both of Rembert; two sisters, Margaret Carson of Goldsboro, N.C., and Pamela (Elijah) Millhouse of Sumter; six aunts, Janet Grant, Bernice Hill, the Rev. Lillian Reynolds, Laura Moore, Ophelia Spencer, all of Sumter, and Deacon Connie (James) Collier of Hyattsville, Md. The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Rafting Creek Baptist Church, S.C. 261 North, Rembert, with the Rev. Dr. Charles H. Davis, pastor, eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Burdell Hill and the Rev. Lillian Reynolds. Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, Rembert. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The procession will leave at 1:15 p.m. from the home of his mother, Lula Mae Singleton, 5 Brand St. The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, Lula Mae Singleton, 5 Brand St. Online memorial messages may be sent to the family at WILLIAMS@FTC-I.NET.
