Lowder Bethea, widow of William Bethea Sr., passed away on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, from COVID. Born on Nov. 15, 1932, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Leon Clyde Lowder and Inez Scurry Lowder. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Bill Bethea of Eastover; granddaughters, Christel Coleman (Greg) and Jenny Richardson (KC), both of Lugoff; great-grandchildren, Leilah Truell (Trey), Andrew Gainey, Luke, Caleb and Jase Richardson; and sisters, Joan Jackson (Sammie) and Gertrude Morris (Wayne). She was predeceased by one sister and five brothers. She was a devoted member of Calvary Bible Church and retired from Pages Uniforms and the Marwin Co. She was an outstanding mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and deeply loved her family. A private service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Due to the current number of COVID cases, a memorial service will be held at Calvary Bible Church at a later date. Memorials may be made to Calvary Bible Church, 770 N. Wise Drive, Sumter, SC 29153. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Bethea passed away on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021. She was the wife of the late William A. Bethea Sr. and daughter of the late Inez Scurry Lowder and Leon Clyde Lowder. She left behind a son, William A. Bethea Jr.; granddaughters, Christel Coleman (Greg) and Jenny Richardson (K.C.); five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Joan Jackson (Sammie) and Gertrude Morris (Wayne).
