| HIST | Date Published: November 12, 2008 CHARLIE ROBINSON Jr. Charlie Robinson Jr., 83, husband of Carrie Gregg Robinson, died on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Sumter East Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born June 16, 1925, in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Charlie Sr. and Menato Weston Robinson. He was a lifetime member of Quinn Chapel AME Church, where he served on the steward board, trustee board, former pastor steward, and a class leader. He was employed by Burgess-Brogdon Building Supply for more than 30 years. Survivors include a loving and devoted wife of the home; two daughters, Gardenia Cindy (Bernard) Burgess and Renee (Don) Witherspoon, both of Sumter; four sons, Wilford Robinson of Sumter, Derrick Robinson of Hampton, Va., James Windham of Roselle, N.J., and Richard (Julia) Gregg of Sumter. He also leaves his precious memories to be cherished by nine grandchildren, Shirrell Chantay (Anthony) Scarborough, Darius Witherspoon, Dustin Witherspoon, Dre Robinson, Randy Robinson, Terence Robinson and Richard Gregg Jr., all of Sumter, Michelle Gregg of Columbia and Tawanda Windham of Roselle; three great-grandchildren, Jalen Scarborough and Dashaun Witherspoon, both of Sumter, and China Windham of Roselle; four sisters-in-law, Lou Bertha Singleton, Bertha Robinson and Claudie Lou Gregg, all of Sumter, and Lou Emma Moore of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother-in-law, Cephus (Elzetta) Gregg of Sumter; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, and a son, Herbert Lee Robinson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from Quinn Chapel AME Church, 2400 Queen Chapel Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Earther Joe, pastor, and the Rev. Alvin E. Webb, eulogist. The family will receive friends at the home, 180 Rolling Creek Drive, Sumter. The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. The funeral procession will leave from the home of his wife at 1:15 p.m. Flora bearers will be the Women's Missionary Society.
