Posted Saturday, December 9, 2023 6:00 am John Dalton Reames Sr., 82, husband of Ann Bailey Reames, died on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born on Nov. 25, 1941, in Sumter, and reared in Bishopville, he was a son of the late Rembert Carlisle Reames Sr. and Essie Baskin Galloway Reames. Mr. Reames served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era. He was a member of Claremont Masonic Lodge No. 64 and American Legion Post No. 15. "Coach Reames," as he was affectionately known to many, enjoyed his time coaching SKIB Baseball, YMCA football and others. Whether farming, gardening, fishing or woodworking in his shop, he enjoyed being outdoors. Always joking and smiling, Mr. Reames loved entertaining his "Griffin Street Family." More than anything else, he savored the time he had with his "grandboys." Survivors in addition to his wife of 55 years include two children, Dalton Reames and Teri Reames (Trey), both of Sumter; two grandsons, Aiden Griffin and Adair Griffin; one brother, Carlisle Reames of Chapin; one sister, Irene Lewis (Skip) of West Union; two nieces, Kelley Reames and Leslie Taylor; and two great-nephews, Kolby and Ethan Taylor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Kathryn Reames; a sister-in-law, Dorothy "Dottie" Reames; and a nephew, Buddy Reames. A memorial service with military honors and Masonic rites will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. David Lake and the staff of Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital for the exceptional and compassionate care they provided.
