- Robert C. Hughes
Columbia - Robert Christopher Hughes, 35, husband of Donna Joy (Rollins) Hughes, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005, in Hua Hin, Thailand.
He was born October 20, 1969, in Cherry Point, North Carolina, to Dexter F. Hughes Jr. and Jacqueline Kay (Hutchinson) Hughes. He grew up in North Charleton, SC.
He was employed with Kellog, Brown, and Root (KBR) Medical as an EMT stationed in Iraq and was on R & R in Thailand at the time of his death. He was formerly employed as an EMT with both Richland and Calhoun Counties.
He is survived by his wife of Swansea, SC, his mother of Sumter, SC, (formerly of North Charleston, SC, his in-laws, Doug and Patricia Rollins of Kershaw, SC., and two brothers, Theodore F. and his wife Laurie (Charland) Hughes of Columbia, SC, and David M. Hughes.
He was preceded in death by his material grandparents, Lucian and Dorothy (Lahmann) Hutchinson, of Sumter, South Carolina.
He was a wonderful husband, son, brother, and had many friends. He loved to travel, fish, build things and was happy when he was helping others. He will be missed by everyone who had crossed his path.
A memorial service was held on Jun 19 at Shive’s Funeral Home, Columbia, SC, with George F. Rice, Jr., Deputy Chief of Richland County Department of Emergency Services, officiating.
