she attended public schools in Newark, N. J., until the fourth grade, she returned to South Carolina to continue her education in Sumter County schools, she was a proud graduate of Hillcrest High School Class of 1972 [2] |

of Temple Hills, Maryland She left Sumter County, South Carolina, in September of 1972 to start her federal government career in Washington, D.C., as an employee of the U. S. Information Agency (USIA) at 4th and C. Street, SW (SA-44). She held positions such as secretary and facilieties management specialist, while working for USIA. USIA was later integrated with the Department of State in 1999. She then became the building manager of her beloved SA44. She received many honorable awards and service plaques during her career. She was a member of AFGE Local No. 1534. She kept her mother’s promise over the years to stay in D. C. as long as she had that “good government job.” She did just that for 34 years. At Jerusalem Baptist Church, you could catch Ida marching with the senior and youth ushers, welcoming the visistors, assisting the pastor, or lending a hand to the Sunday school and PRAISE Dance Ministry. She served in many capacities in the church that included being a proud member and past secretary of the senior usher board, advisor of the junior usher board and assistant church clerk. She was a member of the hospitality committee; Christian education and women’s ministry. She had a godchild, De’Antay James Ervine-Alston- how is he a godchild? jkh at death- she had the following brothers-in-law, Herbert Davis of Washington, D.C., and Willie Earl (Yvonne) Davis; 6 sisters-in-law; Janie Sally Russell of Baltimore, Maryland, Minnie Lou (Robert) Russell, Mary (John) Parker, Ethel Pearson, Margie (Troy) Bolden and Angela Mahoney; 4 aunts, Mary, Martha and Emma Prioleau, all of Dalzell, South Carolina, and Mamie Anderson of Philadelphia, Pennysylvania; 16 nieces; 24 nephews; 30 great-nieces and great-nephews and a host of cousins.
