  HIST	of Spartanburg, South Carolina HOLLY BROADWELL Holly DuBose Beck Broadwell, 82, widow of William Edwin Broadwell, died Thursday, May 6, 2010. She was the daughter of Frederick Baggs Beck and Holly Brown Beck. Born April 23, 1928, in Indianapolis, she grew up in Sumter. She attended St. Mary's College in Raleigh, N.C., graduated from the University of South Carolina, and attended graduate school at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Penn. She worked as a child welfare worker for Sumter County. Mrs. Broadwell was a founding and active member of St. Christopher Episcopal Church for over 45 years where she had been president of the Episcopal Church Women and a member of the Vestry. She also served on commissions for Missions and Pastoral Care. She enjoyed over 40 years of membership in the Wednesday Study Club. Among her many community service activities in Spartanburg, she volunteered for Mobile Meals for seven years and tutored pupils at Houston Elementary School. She is survived by two sons, Mark Broadwell of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Frederick Broadwell of Durham, N.C.; two grandchildren, Kate and Christopher Broadwell of Chapel Hill, NC; and a niece, Holly Freestone of Dallas. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 10, 2010, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church conducted by the Rev. Joseph K. Smith, with burial at The Church of the Holy Cross, Stateburg, at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to York Place Episcopal Church Home for Children, 234 Kings Mountain Street, York, S.C. 29745; or to Mobile Meals Service, P. O. Box 461, Spartanburg, S.C. 29302. The family is at the home. Floyd's North Church Street Chapel is in charge of of arrangements.  [1, 2]
