Mr. Linton was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Lonnie and Ena Gandy Linton. He retired in 1992 as owner and operator of Linton Refrigeration Co. of Florence, which he established in 1950. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having taken part in the Normandy Invasion. He was a member of Summerton Baptist Church, the Florence Moose Lodge, VFW Post No. 3181, the Order of the Eastern Star Mecca Chapter No. 278, a charter member of Mecca Lodge No. 407 AFM and the Omar Shrine. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret Moseley Linton; a daughter, Maretta Linton; and a sister, Katherine Helms. Surviving are his wife, Frances H. Linton of Manning; son, Lonnie Linton III and his wife, Beverly, of Florence; stepchildren, Don and Lisa Miles of Sumter, Erwin Miles of Elloree and Hank Miles of Manning; brother, Ray Linton of Florence; sister, Frankie (Lawrence) Evans of Florence; a number of grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Summerton Baptist Church, P.O. Box 98, Summerton, SC 29148. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Rob Pierce. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence.
