HENDERSON Mildred Gwendolyn Jones Henderson was welcomed into heaven to be with her Lord on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Born in Sumter County on Feb. 14, 1925, she was the widow of the late Samuel Arthur Henderson Jr., the daughter of the late Francis Chesley Jones and Sarah Ann Brunson. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church, Iris Chapter No. 149 Order of the Eastern Star, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Surviving are two sons, Samuel Arthur Henderson III (Louise) and his three children, Robert Allen, Samuel George and Brent Mitchell, and O.G. Henderson (Joann) and his five children, Gerard Arthur (Tamara), Gailian H. Reedy, John Ashley (Amber), Sonja H. Campbell (Tommy) and Heather Michelle; three daughters, Bea H. Purvis (David) and her three children, David M. "Ray" Purvis Jr., Allison Paige Purvis and Van Mac Arthur Purvis (Regina), Sara H. Largent (Sam) and her four children, Christi Shawn Owens, Tori H. Etter (Matt), Misty H. Ureche and Brittnie H. Buitureira (Mark), Tara H. Conyers (Gerald) and her three children, Amber B. Geddings (Billy), Ryan G. Conyers (Stephanie) and Megan Gwynne Conyers; 25 grandchildren; a great-grandson; a special daughter, Mary Lee Thompson; a special granddaughter, L.A. Markham; a sister, Mavis J. Aull; a special sister, Dessie Lee Browder McLamb; and a special friend, Jackie Tanner. She was preceded in death by three brothers, John R. Jones, Ashley Jones and Olvin Jones; and four sisters, Kathleen J. Rodrigue, Amy J. Kennedy, Susan Emma Jones and Frances J. Newman. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Tara Conyers, 1070 Arnaud St. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Concord Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Mosier and the Rev. Rusty Conyers officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Rod and John Ashley Henderson, Sam Henderson, Ray Purvis, Van Purvis and Ryan Conyers. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Henderson, Brent Henderson, Billy Geddings Jr., Billy Ray Geddings III, William Smith, Otis Coulter, Billy Sams, R.L. Conyers, Jimmy Matlock, Chandler Rogers, Jimmy Saunders, J.C. Sanders, Michael Price, Jimmy Tanner, Perry Poole, Lawrence Lee, the Rev. Sammy Geddings, Jamie Deaton, Dewey Pritchard, Dr. Hugh Stoddard, Dr. Phillip Brandt, Dr. Lea Givens Dr. Kent Cunningham, Dr. Danny Ford, Dr. Kurt Strobel, Dr. Frank Cuce and Dr. Todd Warrick. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Concord Baptist Church: Building Fund, 1885 Myrtle Beach Highway, Sumter, SC 29153; or to Wise Drive Church of the Nazarene, 302 N.
