| HIST | Edward and Gloria came as new members of First Baptist Church, Sumter, South Carolina, by letter from Wise Drive Baptist Church, Sumter, South Carolina of Sumter, South Carolina EDWARD NORMAN FRENZ Posted Tuesday, April 7, 2020 6:00 am Edward "Ed" Norman Frenz, 86, husband of Gloria Moore Frenz, died on Sunday, April 5, 2020, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born on Jan. 23, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Edward Albert Henry Frenz and Gertrude Katherine Crow Frenz. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Men's Sunday School Class, and the Friday Morning Prayer Breakfast Group. He served in the S.C. National Guard and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service. He was a Korean War and Vietnam War veteran. Following his military service, he owned Sumter Hydraulics, worked as a machinist at Kaydon Corp. and currently owned Carolina Custom Club. Mr. Frenz was a longtime member of Sunset Country Club, where he played with the "Dirty Dozen" and "Godfathers" golf groups. He served on the board of directors for the Christian Golfer's Association, was a member of First Tee Golf Association, and the Pee Dee Seniors Golf Association. He was a Mason, a member of American Legion Post 15, the Sumter Lions Club, the Shaw Flying Squares and the Gamecock Stutters. He was also a volunteer summer camp counselor for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Survivors include two children, Edward "Eddie" R. Frenz (Cindy) of Charleston and Debbie Lynn (Mike) of Sumter; four grandchildren, Edward Robert Frenz Jr. (Allie), Emily Marguerite Frenz Botzis (Elliott), Katherine Stanley Sowders (Micah) and William "Wes" Shelton Stanley IV; four great-grandchildren, Bo Stanley, Tripp Sowders, Edward Frenz III and Emilia Sowders; and a brother, Robert A. Frenz (Dorothy) of Easton, Maryland. He was preceded in death by a brother, James A. Frenz. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Dan Barber and the Rev. Dr. Bob Calvert officiating.
