Born in Manning, he was a son of Betty Jean Jennings Griffin and the late Melvin Richard Griffin. Mr. Griffin was a member and the technology technician at the Church of the Holy Comforter. Surviving are his wife of Sumter; a son, Caleb Richard Griffin of Florence; a daughter, Emma Grace Griffin of Sumter; a stepson, John David Simmons (Jennifer) of San Antonio, Texas; a stepdaughter, Kimberly Elizabeth Simmons of Sumter; three brothers, Melvin Griffin of Atlanta, Danny Griffin (Ginger) and Benny Griffin, both of Sumter; two grandchildren, Rowan Kai Simmons and William Keith Simmons; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Griffin. Memorial services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, at the Church of the Holy Comforter with the Rev. David Booman officiating. The family will receive friends following the church service and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to the Church of the Holy Comforter, 213 N. Main St., Sumter, SC 29150.
