| HIST | of Bishopville, South Carolina of Garden City, South Carolina LILLIE A. MCCOY HUCKS Posted Tuesday, July 24, 2018 6:00 am Lillie Alberta McCoy Hucks was born on Feb. 13, 1928, in Sumter, and passed peacefully during the night on July 20, 2018 - just four months after her husband, Ed Hucks Jr., to whom she was married for 67 years - from a broken and tired heart. Mom missed Dad dearly - always telling us that she talked to him daily and was looking forward to joining him in heaven. Lillie was the older child of Allie Atkinson McCoy and Ray Laverne McCoy. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ray L. McCoy Jr. Lillie leaves behind her three children and their families, Cynthia (Doug) Smith, Edward Frank "Buddy" (Julie) Hucks, Nancy "Tootsie" (Jeff) Billings, 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Lillie attended Winthrop College and, upon graduation, moved to Conway to teach home economics, where she met Ed. Lillie taught for years in the Lee County Public Schools in Bishopville. In addition to teaching, Lillie was an entrepreneur, selling various direct sales products; partnering to run a fabric shop; and owning a part-time craft business, selling her wall hangings, quilts, vests and bead jewelry. Ed and Lillie left Bishopville in 2003 to live in Garden City. Lillie continued her involvement in quilting and fabric crafts. Most recently Lillie and Ed moved to Covenant Place in Sumter. Over the course of her life, Lillie was active and competed (receiving many awards) in South Carolina and Swamp Fox Quilters. Special thanks to Frances Kelley, our "adopted sister," for her lifelong dedication to mom; to Covenant Place (Sumter); and all who took the time out of their schedules to visit and/or call her in her later years. You made her days happy ones. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lillie M. Hucks are suggested to mom and dad's life passion: Clemson University (Ed Hucks Jr.: Class of 1949 Golden Anniversary Endowment), Clemson University Foundation, P.O. Box 1889, Clemson, SC 29633. A celebration of Lillie's life will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Salem Baptist Church, Aynor. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
