  HIST	of Sumter, South Carolina FRANCES M. SAUNDERS Frances Marion “Fran” Holliday Saunders, 88, widow of Robert D. “Bob” Saunders, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Howard Lamar and Annie Shorter Holliday. Mrs. Saunders was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a retired bookkeeper with Cities Supply Co. with 38 ½ years of service. Prior to moving to Sumter in 1949, she was a secretary in the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office and was the first cashier at Belks Department Store when it opened in Manning. Surviving are her daughter and caretaker, Debbie Anne Saunders of Sumter; one sister, Jimmie Lee Smith of Blue Ridge, Ga.; special nieces, Jerry Mahoney Kowalchuk (Michael) of Youngstown, N.Y., Annette M. McCloskey (Raymond “Ray”) of Camden, Del., Cynthia S. Nance (Stephen “Steve”) of Rome, Ga., Sandra H. Lambert (Dan) of Manning and Kathie H. Benton of Darlington; and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Marshall L. Holliday, Harmon Holliday and James Holliday; and one sister, Alcena Mahoney. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Gorry and the Rev. Angela Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends at the home.
