His service record does not note his death. The last record is for the period September-October 1863, for which time he was reported as present. The Memory Roll for Company H, 3rd Cavalry indicates that he provided a substitute and left the service but does not indicate the date of the substitutioin or his departure (Confederate Historian, M16). He may have done so due to his inability to any longer serve as a soldier because of illness or wounds. [1] | |
