Hilda Jane Hucks, 71, widow of Wadis R. "Sonny" Hucks, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at a local nursing center. Born in North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Hulda Sparkman Herring. Mrs. Hucks was of the Baptist faith and was retired from Heath Oil Co. Surviving are two daughters, Debbie Brodosky of Fayetteville, N.C., and Rosemary Peavy of Sumter; three sisters, Lucile Brown of Cero Gorda, N.C., and Hopie Martin and Fodie Byrd, both of Lumberton, N.C.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, David Herring. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Melton officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Tommy Byrd, Jimmy Brown, Dale DuBose, Alex Green, Adam Bruce and Dusty Grantham. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Gantt and Rick Geddings. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 883 Kolb Road.
