Laura Catherine "Cassie" Mitchum Senn ORANGEBURG - Laura Catherine "Cassie" Mitchum Senn died peacefully at her home on April 14, 2014. She was born in Eutawville, SC, March 21, 1924, to Joseph Snowden Mitchum and Eva Clair Dantzler Mitchum. She was predeceased by her husband, Belvin L Senn; son, William Edward "Bill" Senn; brothers and sisters, Dorothy M Horger, Everette Mitchum, John Mitchum, Effie M Storie, Ernestine M Mathews and Kenneth Mitchum Rast. She is survived by her daughters Beverly Senn Galanek (Paul) and Catherine "Cathy" Senn Hungiville (Michael); three grandchildren, Christopher Galanek (Linda), Pamela Cone (David) and Laura Hungiville; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Cone, Samuel Galanek, Ansley Cone and Jack Galanek; and her special chosen family, Tara and Rick Williamson, Richard Williamson and Andrew Williamson. Her surviving siblings are Eva Clair Furchess and Samuel "Sam" Mitchum. Catherine began her career in banking at First National Bank in Orangeburg in 1952 as a teller. She held various positions within the bank until her retirement after thirty-seven years as Vice President of Marketing. She was a member of the National Association of Bank Women, American Institute of Banking, a graduate of the SC Bankers School at the University of South Carolina and a member of the Pilot Club of Orangeburg. She was a faithful member of St Paul's United Methodist Church, serving in various capacities on the Administrative Board, Pastor- Parish Relations Committee, the Finance Committee, Basket Band, adult and children's Sunday school teacher, and in the Joyful Singers senior choir. She also served her community by using her sewing talents as a member of the Garden City Stitchers, whose mission is to provide clothing for preemie babies. She was also a member of the Moultrie Chapter of the NSDAR. An avid gardener, Catherine belonged to the Wisteria Garden Club and won many blue ribbons at the Orangeburg County Fair for her beautiful Mass arrangements of cut flowers. She loved music, dancing and children, but her family was always first and foremost in her heart. She was never idle, and started taking piano lessons in her 80's, took up line dancing and only stopped riding horses with her granddaughter three years ago when her health began to decline. Catherine was a 1942 graduate of Orangeburg High School and until recently, met with the remaining members of her class at monthly luncheons. If you knew "Miss Catherine", you loved her and if you didn't know her, you have missed being touched by a most wonderful treasure loaned to us by God.
