McCASKILL Sr. Retired U.S. Navy Sr. Chief Petty Officer James Cooke McCaskill Sr., 85, married first to the late Sally Ruth McCaskill for 38 years and, after her death, later married to the late Shirley L. McCaskill for 20 years, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Sumter Health and Rehab. Mr. McCaskill was born in Lee County, a son of the late Finley Cooke and Lydia Brown McCaskill. He retired as a senior chief petty officer with the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service, serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He later worked as a finance and credit manager for Phoenix Furniture Co. and as financial personnel for Evergreen and Hillside Memorial Park cemeteries. Survivors are a son, James C. McCaskill Jr. of Columbia; three daughters, Sandy Mims and her husband, David, of Chapin, Marlene Baldwin and her husband, Billy, of Myrtle Beach and Tammy Scott and her husband, Mel, of Sumter; a brother, Lyde McCaskill and his wife, Bert, of Sumter; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Evelyn Duvall and Susie Maye. A memorial service with full military honors will be held at noon Wednesday at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with Ken Ford officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Bullock Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Gamecock Chapter No. 5, P.O.
