TANNER Jacqueline Lowder Tanner, 66, wife of Wresley James "Jimmy" Tanner Jr., died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Leon C. Sr. and Inez Scurry Lowder. Mrs. Tanner was a member of Jefferson Road Freewill Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for a number of years. Survivors include her husband of 39 years; three sisters, Floree Dell Bethea, Gertrude Morris and Joan Jackson, all of Sumter; two brothers, Derle Lowder Sr. and Howard Lowder, both of Sumter; four "special daughters," Tara Conyers, Christine Morris, Karen Markham and Sara Largent; six "special grandchildren," Amber, Alyson and Cooper Geddings, and Ryan, Megan and Andrew Conyers; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Leon C. Lowder Jr., Wilfred Lowder and Tommy Lowder. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Jefferson Road Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Rusty Conyers officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Baptist Church cemetery in Bishopville. Pallbearers will be Gerald Conyers, Wayne Morris, Robbie Morris, David Brown, Mike Morris and Billy Sams. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Bethea and R.L. Conyers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Tara Conyers, 1070 Arnaud St. (Tudor Place), Sumter.
