Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Claude Thomas Hyatt and the late Lila Mae Morris Hyatt. Mr. Hyatt was employed by The Item for 20 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Lee Hyatt Jr. of Manning; three grandchildren, Mary Ashley Hyatt, Robert Lee Hyatt III and James Dylan Hyatt; and two sisters, Elaine Shealy (Duane) of Irmo and Frances Smith (Tim) of Circleville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Thomas Hyatt. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Eddie Richardson and the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park with military honors. Pallbearers will be Tommy Hyatt, Tim Shealy, Wayne Blackwell, David Riles, Jody Riles and Brad Graham. Honorary pallbearers will be James Zepko and the employees of The Item. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
