| HIST | Date Published: July 29, 2008 She is the 3rd of 12 children. MARY J. WILSON Mary Louise Jefferson Wilson, 95, widow of W.T. Wilson Jr., died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Sumter Health and Rehab Center. Born in Mayesville, she was the third of 12 children born to the late William McKinley Jefferson and Julia Dix Jefferson. She was educated at the historic Mayesville Institute School. In her formative years, she received her earliest Christian experience at Ebenezer AME Church in Mayesville. After marriage, she became a faithful member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, where she provided more than 75 years of dedicated service in many capacities, including church secretary, president of the senior choir, member of the United Methodist Women and church Sexton for 30 years. She excelled in athletics and was outstanding in basketball. She participated in the regional championship women's basketball team her senior year in high school. She was a Mayesville historian and provided wise counsel to anyone who sought her guidance. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, John Henry Wilson, Harvey Lee Wilson and William "Bill" Wilson, and seven siblings, Harry Jefferson, Primus Jefferson, Ivory Jefferson, Alonza Jefferson, Sue Mae Hines, Clara Reese and Irene Jefferson. Surviving are four children, Thomas Andrew Wilson Sr. of Newport News, Va., Dorothy Wilson Brown of Philadelphia, Pa., McKinley Louis Wilson Sr. of Sumter and Nancy Wilson (Odell) Williams of Mayesville; 23 grandchildren, including Kenneth Lazarus Wilson of Stone Mountain, Ga., who was reared in the home; 39 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Pattie Gibson of Mayesville; three brothers, Roy Jefferson of Columbus, Ohio, George (Nancy) Jefferson of Allendale and Willie (Jeanie) Jefferson of Mayesville; and a host of other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Clark United Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Bobby Shaw, officiating, assisted by the Revs. Robert E. Galloway, Willie E. Lawson and Terry B. Law and the Rev. Dr. Jon R. Black. She will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. for viewing until the hour of service. Interment will follow in the Mayesville Community Cemetery. She may be viewed by the public today at Palmer Memorial Chapel from noon until 8 p.m. today.
