Born in Arizona, he was a son of the late Benjamin H. and Ethel Kilmoore Padgett. Mr. Padgett was a mechanical engineer and retired from civil service at Shaw Air Force Base. Survivors include three sons, Vernon R. Padgett (Sandy Ashdown Turner) of Whittier, Calif., Bryan W. Padgett (Diane) of Sumter and Ben Padgett (Karen) of Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren, Alexis Cienfuegon, Deanna Hinkle, Joshua Padgett, Morgan Padgett, Ryan Padgett and Allen Padgett; and three great-grandchildren, Anthony Hinkle, Angelina Hinkle and Austin Hinkle. Funeral services will be private. Memorials may be made to the Sumter SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150.
