| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina MARY JUANITA MCCASKILL ROSS Posted Thursday, December 8, 2022 6:00 am Mary Juanita McCaskill Ross, 92, died on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, at NHC Healthcare. Born on Oct. 10, 1930, in Orangeburg, she was a daughter of the late David Olin McCaskill and Julia Margaret Strock McCaskill. She was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church. She was the first female employee and retired as the assistant manager of Hardee's. Survivors include three children, Jackie Doubleman of Cullman, Alabama, Ronnie Ross (Sarah) of Sumter and Nancy Nunnery (Ricky) of Sumter; three grandchildren, Misty Grinfield, Trevor Nunnery and Cody Nunnery (Kristen); great-grandchildren, Madison Boone and Caitlin Brown; a brother, Cecil McCaskill (Betty) of Sumter; and two sisters, Betty Lowder of Sumter and Ruth Geddings of Bellevue, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Ross; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Ross; a son-in-law, Mickey Doubleman; and a brother, O.D. McCaskill. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Charles Owens and Pastor Ron Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ricky Nunnery. Memorials may be made to Crosswell Baptist Church, 604 Mathis St., Sumter, SC 29150. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to all of the staff at NHC Healthcare for the loving care and compassion shown to Ms. Ross during her stay there.
