HIST | of Rembert, South Carolina He was preceded in death by a grandson, Clyde Culler Dinkins- who are his parents? jkh CHARLES WILLIAM DINKINS Posted Tuesday, August 24, 2021 6:00 am REMBERT - Charles William "Poppa" Dinkins, 77, husband of Lana Wells Dinkins, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, at MUSC Health Columbia Downtown (Providence Health) in Columbia. Born on Oct. 12, 1943, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Robert Brownfield Dinkins Sr. and Loretto Phifer Dinkins. Mr. Dinkins was a self-employed businessman. As a follower of Jesus, he was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church-Sumter, where he served on the benevolence committee and was a member of the sanctuary choir, where he served as a former president. With a heart of service, he had been a first grade Sunday school teacher for many years. His constant words of encouragement will be a lasting memory for many. Charles was an avid horseman and an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, caring for and sharing the history of beautiful Dinkins Mill, and feeding the ducks and geese that looked for him every morning by the pond. Survivors in addition to his wife, Lana, include three children, Monica Dinkins Squires (Terry) of Alcolu, retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Michael David Dinkins (Anna) of Texas and Robert "Rob" Maurice Dinkins (Tina) of Sumter; eight grandchildren, the Rev. Champ Squires, Leighton Squires, Maddy Dinkins, Patrick Dinkins, Camden Dinkins, Mark Dinkins, Ellen Dinkins and Rebecca Dinkins; two brothers, the Rev. Dr. David Hastings Dinkins Sr. (Pam) and Stephen Lillington Dinkins Sr. (Celeste), both of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Beverley Jones Dinkins of Sumter; his best canine friend, Danny; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Brownfield Dinkins Jr.; and a grandson, Clyde Culler Dinkins. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Dan Barber officiating. Burial will be at Dinkins Mill Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Dinkins, Robbie Dinkins, David Dinkins Jr., the Rev. Scott Dinkins, John Robert Dinkins and Bob Rearden Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friday Morning Prayer Group of First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 107 E. Liberty St., Sumter, SC 29150.
