Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Rev. William Hughy Thigpen and Bertha Corbett Thigpen. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was retired as the maintenance supervisor of the Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning. He was a Mason, a member of Kingstree Masonic Lodge No. 46 and a member of the Salters Assemble of God Church in Kingstree. He was preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. John Hugh Thigpen. He is survived by a daughter, Pamela Jean Lee of Moncks Corner; two sons, Bobby (Tracie) J. Thigpen of Marion and Charlie (Lisa) D. Thigpen of Oklahoma; two sisters, Ruby Chandler of Olanta and Mary Lee Coker of Sumter; four brothers, Ernest Thigpen and Donald Thigpen of Bishopville, the Rev. Delbert Thigpen of St. George and Willie M. Thigpen of Maxton, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. [1] | |
