Delbert Clayton Thigpen Sr., 78, husband of Minnie Desolene "Deanie" Evans Thigpen, died Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Unihealth Post-Acute Care in Orangeburg. Born March 7, 1934, in Cades, he was a son of the late William Hughey and Bertha Ethel Corbett Thigpen. He was a lifelong pastor of various churches and a member of Kingstree First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He is survived by his wife of Manning; two daughters, Debbie Thigpen of Manning and Donna McKenzie (Tim) of Kingstree; a son, Delbert Clayton "Del" Thigpen Jr. (Tina) of Gallatin, Tenn.; three brothers, Willie Mack Thigpen (Dorothy Mae) of Maxton, N.C., Donald Thigpen and Ernest Thigpen (Mary), all of Bishopville; two sisters, Ruby Chandler of Olanta and Mary Lee Coker of Sumter; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with Bishop Gregg Amos, the Rev. Larry Jones and the Rev. Jimmy McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow in Kingstree First Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery with the Rev. Mike McKenzie officiating. Pallbearers will be Mack Ard, Buck Steen, Joey Mathis, J.P. Coker, Ken Coker and Johnny Thigpen. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
