| HIST | of Six Mile, South Carolina Vance E. Hudson Vance Elmore Hudson, 89, beloved wife of the late Samuel Hudson, died on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at her son’s residence. She was born in the Trinity community of Clarendon County, the daughter of the late Lewis E. Elmore and Beulah Parnell Elmore. Mrs. Hudson was a retired bookkeeper from the Textilease Corporation. She was forced into early retirement due to macular disease. She was a member of the Joy Women’s Circle at the St. John UMC. She was also involved with the Retinitis Pigmentosa Foundation and may other eye foundations. She lived in Sumter all her life until the death of her husband, then moved to Six Mile to live with her beloved son, Sammy, in 2001. She was a member of St. John United Methodist Church of Sumter and attended Alive Wesleyan Church, Central. Surviving are: one son, Samuel B. Hudson Jr. and his wife, Bettie, of Six Mile; one brother-in-law, Richard W. Hudson of Sumter; two grandchildren, Kehl Benson Hudson, a missionary in the Bronx, N.Y., and Bettie Kathleen Hudson of Six Mile; and two grand-dogs, Unoona and Solo. She was preceded in death by: two brothers, Grover Dewey Elmore and Loraine Elridge Elmore; and four sisters, Emma Ruth Lowder, Annie Morris, Margaret Erin Lowder and Vashti White. A graveside service will be held on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Huggins and the Rev. Fred Andrews officiating and with Kehl Benson Hudson providing the music. The family will receive friends today from 5 to 6 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Wendell Blanton, Johnny Burke, Doug Fellars, Matthew Hasik, James Lowder and Johnny Lowder. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Grooms, Bob Grooms, Linda Hasik, Nina Blanton, Faye Fellars, Teri Burke, Lottie Cabbagestalk and Phillip Hudson. Memorials may be made to the Oconee Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, or to St. John United Methodist Church, 206 Phifer St., Sumter, SC 29150.
