| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina RUBY H. JENKINS Posted: Tuesday, February 22, 2005 12:00 am | Updated: 4:45 pm, Thu Feb 25, 2010. During the early morning of Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, God called Ruby Leola Hastie Jenkins home. Her life here on earth was finished and it was time for God's servant to finally rest and receive her reward. Mrs. Jenkins was born unto her parents, the late Willie Hastie Sr. and Geneva Byrd Hastie, on June 16, 1952, in Sumter. She received her formal education from Tindal School and Manchester High School. She furthered her education at Sumter Area Technical College. Her Christian life and education of the Lord began at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a lifelong member, until illness prevented her from doing so. She was a member of the adult choir and Missionary Circle No. 1. She was united in holy matrimony to Bennie Jenkins. She was affectionately called "momma" and "Ruby Lee." She was a joy to her family as a mother, sister, friend, aunt, cousin and co-worker. She lived and died as a rose, always concerned about the well-being of others. She was a faithful and dedicated employee of Sumter School District 17 for 28 years at Lemira and Wilder elementary schools, until her passing. She leaves to cherish her loving memories three children, Debra J. White (Warren) of Sumter, Teresa Willis (Anthony) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Bennie A. Jenkins of Virginia; five sisters, Lula Burns (Ferdinand Jr.), Ella McBride, Rhonda Reynolds (Larry) and Janice Hastie, all of Sumter, and Geneva Zeigler (James) of Paxville; one brother, Roger Hasty (Andrea) of Tacoma, Wash.; her grandmother, Sudie Hastie of Sumter; two grandchildren, Anthony and Antonio Willis of Jacksonville; four aunts, Catherine Green (Ervin) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Gardenia Knox, Mattie Lee Collins (Roosevelt), and Viola Amos, all of Sumter; two grandaunts, Annie Lou Pringle and Fannie Pack, both of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Blanche Hastie of Paxville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who are deeply grieved by her passing. She was preceded in death by a brother, Willie Hastie Jr. Services for Mrs. Jenkins will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Wright, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bennett and the Rev. John Johnson. Burial will follow in the Bradford Cemetery. The remains will be placed in the church one hour before the service. The family is receiving friends at the home, 550 Ginbyrd Road (3420 U.S. 15 S.). The funeral procession will leave the home, 550 Ginbyrd Road, at 2:40 p.m. Sumter Funeral Service Inc. is in charge of the arrangements. Posted in Obits on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 [1, 3] | |
