- Philip is first listed in the 1830 SC Census in Sumter County on page 098. He married Harriet about 1832 but did not stay around very long.
There is a Philips McElven listed in the 1850 Sumter County SC Census. Even though this is the wrong spelling, I believe that this is the same Philip McElveen here. He is on page 350 and his wife, Harriet, is on page 357.
C1850 Sumter District Book ,
#669 Phillip McElveen 54 M Planter $500 and Pervis Rogers 35 M Laborer in the same house. #784 Harriet McElveen 50 F, Martha 17, Dolly 22.
Philip McElveen is listed in the 1870 Sumter District census. He was 75 years old and was a Farmer. The value of his property was Personal $500.00 and Real Estate $1,500.00. He lived with Pervis Rogers, a 50 year old Farmer. Also in the household were Serkey Rogers, 20 year old female keeping house, and Susan Rogers, 1 years old. This is the last census in which Philip is listed.
