Born on Dec. 17, 1942, in Gable, he was a son of the late Edward Caroll Baker and Beulah Olean Morris Baker. He served in the National Guard and was a member of Gideons Clarendon Camp and Clarendon Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 54 years of Manning; a son, John William Baker Jr. (Renee) of Sumter; a daughter, Betsi Baker Williamson (Jeff) of Greenville; four grandchildren, Megan Truluck (Ryan) of Hopkins, Chad Baker of Easley, Will Mosier (Kristie) of Sumter and Addison Bass (Randy) of Elgin; a great-grandson, Grayson Truluck; a sister, Linda Lowder of Manning; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Clarendon Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Mike DeCosta officiating. * In case of inclement weather, the service will be held in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Chad Baker, Will Mosier, David Baker, Tripp Baker, Shawn Shady and Lee McArthur. He served in the National Guard and was a member of Gideons Clarendon Camp and Clarendon Baptist Church. He retired after 35 years of service with FCX, Gold Kist and Southern States. Johnny enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming and gardening. He was always amazed at planting a seed and watching it grow and produce. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing, Clemson Tigers, baseball, gospel songs, hymns and country music. Most of all, he loved and enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 54 years of Manning; a son, John William Baker Jr. (Renee) of Sumter; a daughter, Betsi Baker Williamson (Jeff) of Greenville; four grandchildren, Megan Truluck (Ryan) of Hopkins, Chad Baker of Easley, Will Mosier (Kristie) of Sumter and Addison Bass (Randy) of Elgin; a great-grandson, Grayson Truluck; a sister, Linda Lowder of Manning; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
