| HIST | Eugenia B. Hammett Eugenia (Jean) B. Hammett, widow of Thomas F. Hammett Jr., accepted her place in Heaven on Aug. 12, 2011, at the age of 91. She was born in Sumter on Nov. 3, 1919. She was the daughter of Charlie L. Baker and Lottie W. Baker. She graduated from Sumter High School, class of 1936, and was a proud recipient of the typing and short-hand awards. She spent just over 50 years at the Wendell M. Levi & Associates law firm. She was credited for her hard work and contributions to The Pigeon written by Wendell Levi. Hammett was an avid gardener and a loyal P-15's baseball fan. Although her health would not allow her to attend services, she was a member of Crosspoint Baptist Church. Hammett had no children but raised Albert Epstein as her own grandson and loved him so very much. She is survived by one sister, Sara B. Jernigan; one sister-in-law, Jacqueline T. Baker; and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all of whom were very special to her. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie L. Baker Jr. and M. Douglas Baker; and one sister, Alma B. Smith. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. today at Crosspoint Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Richardson officiating. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. today at Crosspoint Baptist Church.
