| HIST | Mike Creel Mike Creel LAKE CITY - Mr. Ervin Carmichael "Mike" Creel, Jr., 81, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, May the 25th, 2013, in the Lake City Community Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Creel was born in the Hannah community. He was a son of the late Ervin Carmichael Creel, Sr. and the late Flossie Prosser Creel, and was the husband of Faye Hayes Creel. Mr. Creel grew up in Hannah, and was educated in the schools of Florence County. After completing high school, he went to the University of South Carolina. While in his second year of study, Mr. Creel answered the call of duty to help his country fight in the Korean War. Mr. Creel volunteered for the United States Navy, and proudly served his country as a corpsman aboard an escort vessel that assisted in protecting a destroyer fleet. After the war, Mr. Creel returned to the University of South Carolina and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Pharmacy. Mr. Creel came to Lake City in 1960 and began as owner and operator of the M&D Drug Store. Mr. Creel retired in 2004 after forty-four years of service. Mr. Creel was a devoted Christian. He was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church for over fifty-three years. During those many years of attendance, Mr. Creel served in many capacities to include Head Usher, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, PPRC, and President of the Men's Club. He had a great love and passion for his church and enjoyed serving the congregation - always willing to help and assist in any way he could. Mr. Creel served was a long-time supporter of Carolina Athletics. He was always so fond of tailgating and socializing with friends at the games. Mr. Creel was a member of the Lions Club in Lake City for many years, and in his spare time, Mr. Creel loved fishing. Mr. Creel's family will forever cherish the memories they had with him. He was a special and exceptional role model to them, and his legacy will forever be carried on through the great values and traditions he instilled in them. Mr. Creel was a loving, faithful, and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, Christian, and friend to all who will be deeply and sincerely missed by those who knew and loved him. He may be gone, but his profound legacy continues on. The family would like to extend a special and heart-felt "thank-you" to Southern Care Hospice, Lake City Community Hospital, and caregiver Faye Knight for the compassionate care and kindhearted attention shown to Mr. Creel during his times of need. Words are not enough to express the gratitude felt for these many acts of kindness. May God bless you for the work you have done. Mr. Creel's surviving family includes his beloved wife of fifty-seven years, Faye H. Creel, of the home; his two sons, W. Todd Creel (Janice), of Lake City, and Mark Creel (Amy), of West Columbia; his four grandchildren, Matthew E. Creel (Brooke), of Pamplico, Benjamin A. Creel, of Lake City, Amber N. Creel, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Emily C. Habash, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and his sister, Rachel C. Benton, of Hannah. Mr. Creel is preceded in death by his three sisters, Frances C. West, Elleveen C. Mashburn, and Merrilyn C. Love. Funeral services for Mr. Creel will be held at eleven o'clock a.m., Monday, May the 27th, in the Lake City United Methodist Church. Burial and committal services will be held immediately following the funeral in the Lake City Memorial Park.
