| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina MARJORIE FLEMING BYNUM Posted Tuesday, July 20, 2021 6:00 am Marjorie Fleming Bynum, 84, widow of Alvis J Bynum of Sumter, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 19, 2021, at Covenant Place in Sumter. Born on Nov. 20, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Grace and Sam Fleming of Ora. Affectionately known as "Mama B," she was a loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. After graduating from Laurens High School and Erskine College, where she made many lifelong friends, Marge took a job in Sumter as a teacher. There she met the love of her life and husband of 53 years, Alvis Bynum. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Methodist Church, where she served the Lord faithfully. Marge especially loved serving the homeless and social events with her beloved FaHoLo Class. She was also active in the Sumter community with the Sumter Junior League, The Book Club, bridge club and a supper club. The family wishes to thank the Covenant Place community and her many friends that brought her much joy over the last years as well as the Covenant Place Nursing Center for the excellent compassionate care they provided in recent days. Marge is survived by her children, Al and Susan Bynum of Seneca, Grace and Roby Kelley of Sumter and Chris and Tina Bynum of Greenville; grandchildren, Jesse, Brittany, Taylor and Allison Bynum and Wilson, Catherine and Bynum Kelley; her brother, Samuel Fleming and his wife, Phyllis, of Ashville, North Carolina; her sister-in-law, Pat Bynum of Sumter; as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph R. James Jr. and the Rev. Dr. Reginald Thackston officiating. Visitation will follow in the fellowship hall. There will be a private burial beforehand at Sumter Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Trinity United Methodist Church Missions Fund, 226 W.
