Birth: May 9, 1929 Death: Apr. 28, 2015 James “J.W.” Carraway, 85, of Effingham, SC passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Carolinas Hospital System after an illness. Mr. Carraway was born in Effingham, SC a son of the late James Fred Carraway and Annie Pearl Coward Carraway. He was a longtime member of Effingham Church of God and had been an auto mechanic at B & G Tire and Appliance. He loved his bluegrass and bar-b-que. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Carraway; brother, Willard Carraway and granddaughter, Brittney Carraway. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, three sons, five daughters, one daughter-in-law, 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and two brothers. Memorials may be made to Effingham Church of God Building Fund, 149 McLaughlin Road, Effingham, SC 29541. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Effingham Church of God. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
